the obvious answer is for all of us to stop eating fruits and vegetables...And if you look at recent obesity statistics, you'll see that many Americans have already started.Obviously, Colbert and the idiots who invited him made a mockery of this very important issue. In general, Colbert champions liberal policies by playing a prevaricating characterization of right-wing conservatives, using purposeful misinterpretations to garner laughs. By making conservatives the butt of the joke, Colbert doesn't even engage with the actual arguments, but instead precludes those he mocks from gaining social capital. In a democracy, a strategy like this one, evoking a basic need for social approval, works.
I certainly hope that my star power can bump this hearing all the way up to C-SPAN1.
Maybe the easier answer is to have scientists create vegetables that pick themselves.
Colbert says he was a "corn-packer that day," but understands it is a term for a "gay Iowan, and meant no offense."
But Colbert's cursory dismissal of immigration restriction arguments isn't the only lesson learned from this charade. Note that there were actually House Democrats who believed this was a good idea. These Ivory Tower individuals view the concerns of middle America (broadly defined) as worthy of contempt, not consideration. In inviting Colbert and tacitly defining immigration restriction arguments as idiotic, they illustrate the limitless gap between the elite and everyone else. They can't even fathom normal, upstanding citizens advocating these positions. They can't fathom the personal affect engendered by unfettered immigration, manifested in occupational, residential, and cultural contexts.
Is it any wonder then that the Tea Party and other populists continually mention elite treason?
[Though even some Democrats have softly criticized the testimony.]

So you don't understand jokes, and you whine about treason. The only people who are enemies of America right now are the Tea Party.

I know you are, but what am I.
How original!
After Nov. 2 we are so done with your bullshit.
I had to look up "prevaricate" in the dictionary
"After Nov. 2 we are so done with your bullshit."
Unfortunately, I doubt it. How many conservative ballot box revolutions have there been? I can think of at least 2 in recent memory. It seems that eventually, the country continues on its relentless march to the Left.
Seems to me that something more fundamental will need to change to get this country back on track.
The most likely possibility is some new technology. It's also possible that the ultra-religious will grow in numbers to the point where the Leftists are completely outnumbered.
I wonder if the troll who dishonestly posts retorts to OneSTDV's articles on this site is a certain former blogger who has since been pretty much discredited? I'll bet its the same troll, using different aliases and IP's.
It would simply be revolutionary to allow the public to get to set immigration policy wouldn't it? Just as it would apparently be revoutionary (to our elites) to allow the public to decide much of anything about this nation for themselves.
...the country continues on its relentless march to the Left.
Yeah, quite a phenomenon. Most people I engage personally, even bums on the street, decry the welfare state and big government. But anyone elected anywhere eventually ends up voting for more centralized control.
We are in the middle of the industrial revolution, and we are more and more industrializing our governments. One analogy might be WalMart. Many people dislike the place--the crowds, the lines, the labor practices, the supplier abuse, the imports--but many still shop there.
I think the whole thing simply proves the left knows they don't have a coherent argument on the issue. Yelling racism only worked for so long. Now they are reduced to mocking the idea of ordinary Americans having a say in policy.
Even his jokes were stale. Not only were they not funny, but they were out of touch. Vegetables? Really? Not one, but two vegetable jokes? Most comedians moved on from vegetable to construction jokes a decade or so ago.

Sabril, you keep mentioning this, but there is no evidence of net population growth in the US amongst the "ultra-religious". I am from the bible belt myself, and whites are at a slow increase there, with Mestizo immigration and birthrates skrocketing.
You must be talking about Israel.

OneSTDV, I think the Colbert appearance was effective. Dems appeal to a "lifestyle" brand, one in which upwardly mobile aspirations, critically including mocking Middle America and ordinary people, is key.
The appeal to women's innate snobbery is implicit in Colbert's jokes. Hence the "fat" jokes (fat = lower class) that Leno also makes, and you'll see Conan make, and so on. It is the flipside to "Fattest Loser" on NBC where gay and lesbian trainer divas yell at fat people to lose weight.
This is very much class based, which in turn depends on selling White women a huge dose of snobbery.

It is plausible, not proven.
Amish are growing.

Ultra orthodox are growing.

I don't have numbers on more integrated religious non-contracepting groups among Catholics and Protestants, but they are definitely out there and growing.
Probably the best way to track is to look at census data. It is broken down by race. They publish the number of children per woman by the percentage of women who have x kids.
The percentage of women 40 and older who have no children is now about 20%. They won't pass their family values on. Those who have 1 or 2 kids are large in number but of course, their kids aren't. 55% of children live in homes of at least 3 children. So, I would say that is the trend since nowadays people basically have kids by choice.
27% of women have 55% of the kids. So, the current trend probably is not going to be the same in the next generation. Hispanic fertility may decline as they become more americanized. Blacks whose grandparents were born here have total fertility below 2.0. Whites are probably the only group who have the psychological traits and the religious backgrounds necessary to actually cultivate large families around religious fanaticism. The groups doing it now are white. They have done it before, so there is some basis for it. With birth control, the selection is much more extreme than in the past when whites tried it before.
You'd have to look at what percentage of those children actually absord their parents values. You are going to have some turnover. It would be a very slow process. A lot slower than our open borders in addition to at least the next generation or two of Mexican fecundity.
Also, I'm not sure I would count on the ultra-religious being a reliable group to block do-gooder nonsense that is destructive to the properity and commonweal of this country.
Yeah, Kyle, I agree. I wouldn't say it is probable. However, minorities are notoriously difficult to get to the polls. Only a little more participation from conservative whites to dominate politically. So even just a modest move to the right could get the job done.
At one time in our not-so-distant past, guest(or "temporary/seasonal") farm workers were issued legal work/ID cards. We knew who they were and they were here legally.
Somehow he and his ilk either don't know this or more likley just don't want to acknowledge this for they'd have to admit that our past shows that it is possible to have foreign workers who are granted entry in an orderly, legal fashion.
Thus, the simple, repeated question by all of us stupid folks: "What is it about the word 'illegal' you don't understand?"
Screw Colbert and the other liars of the entertainment world. A good satirist or comic is able to cut through the crap, not create his own crap.
"Sabril, you keep mentioning this, but there is no evidence of net population growth in the US amongst the 'ultra-religious'."
According to Wikipedia, the Amish growth rate is nearly 4% per year.

"You must be talking about Israel."
I'm not, but Israel is definitely the place to watch since it is 50 or so years ahead of the US in terms of orthodox demographics.
